Membership with the Overseas Press Club of America provides access to an elite group of media industry leaders, exclusive events with relevant topics to enhance your job as a journalist, networking opportunities, the monthly newsletter with all the latest industry news about OPC members and hotel discounts and event passes at press clubs throughout the globe (must be logged in to the site to download this list).
As an OPC member, you also have access to the online community, bill pay, donations, OPC-member exclusive events, an online directory of members and the ability to create an online profile to network with members.
By being a member of the OPC, you also support the work of the organization, which has advocated press freedom and the support and protection of journalists since 1939. The OPC Press Freedom Committee lobbies world leaders to improve the freedom of the press and the safety of journalists. Injuries and deaths in the journalism industry have increased significantly in the past eight years, and not just in hot spots like Iraq and Afghanistan. Mexico, Russia and the Philippines are just a few countries the Committee has focused much of its efforts in the past few years.
The annual OPC Awards honors the best in reporting with 21 categories, juried by fellow journalists. With media outlets in the U.S. shrinking their international bureaus, it's more important than ever to salute those organizations that are still willing to support the important coverage of world news, and the journalists who relentlessly seek the stories that inform and enlighten readers and viewers.
The OPC Foundation is a 501 (C)(3) charitable organization affiliated with the OPC and provides scholarships to 12 young journalists who are interested in pursuing careers in overseas reporting. The Foundation has a broad mandate to improve the media's understanding of international issues and to raise the quality of news-gathering efforts in covering the world. The most tangible expression of this charter is a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate students in American colleges and universities.
