Please join us in celebrating The Overseas Press Club's 70th year as we reinvigorate the defense of the integrity and ongoing importance of journalism. The recasting of the news business by technology and economic turmoil makes our promotion of excellence in international reporting and of freedom of the press more important than ever.
The news is not going away and neither are we. Despite the bankruptcy filings of many newspapers, we cannot despair. The evidence for optimism is on display at our annual OPC Awards dinner as we honor the brave men and women who have risked their lives to bring the action to us from remote and treacherous reaches of the world. It really is news our nation needs to know.
Fortunately, the innate lure of being a reporter has not evaporated. The fabulously talented young people who compete for a dozen Overseas Press Club Foundation scholarships are proof our profession still has promise.
At Overseas Press Club programs, such as our recent panel on New Ventures in International News and Reporting, journalists are learning about our brave new world as they try to find ways to sustain its profitability while preserving quality.
Look at our website: opcofamerica.org. Send us a post. Help guide aspiring journalists. Read all about our Freedom of The Press Committee and its ongoing campaign to stop the jailing, abuse and murder of journalists worldwide. Check out our news from the front. Our challenge is to preserve and promote the integrity of news. The Overseas Press Club appreciates the confidence that four foundations have shown in us by providing a $25,000 matching grant to expand.
