Frank Bourgholtzer

Frank Bourgholtzer, 90, a former NBC News foreign correspondent and the network’s first full-time White House correspondent, died October 8 in his Santa Monica, California home.

He began his 40-year career with NBC News in 1946. He was assigned to Europe in 1953 and served as bureau chief in Paris, Bonn, Vienna and Moscow, reporting from both East and West Europe during the height of the Cold War. When he was White House correspondent, the three networks produced the first TV tour of the White House during which Bourgholtzer persuaded President Truman to play an impromptu piano recital in the East Room.
