Wednesday, Oct. 7: An Inside Look at Covering the Greek Debt Crisis

The Greek debt crisis is a hydra of a story, with tentacles circling the globe from Athens to  Frankfurt to Washington and beyond. Join the OPC and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism on Sept. 30 to get tips from veteran journalists on how they made a complex economic story come alive.

Liz Alderman, the chief European business correspondent for the Paris-based International New York Times, has written extensively on the impact of the debt crisis and austerity policies on the lives of average citizens, as well as the societal and political implications.

Jack Ewing, the  European economics correspondent for The International New York Times, is based in Frankfurt. His primers on the financial sources of the crisis are must-reading for anyone who wants to understand what has happened, and what could happen.

Dody Tsiantar is a freelance journalist and has been teaching journalism at CUNY since 2006. Fluent in Greek, she spent the summer in Greece reporting stories and blogs for the Los Angeles Times, Al Jazeera America, BuzzFeed, and Quartz.

Marcus Mabry, president of the OPC and Editor at large at The New York Times, is the moderator.

Alderman and Ewing will participate from Europe via Skype.
