Amanpour Moves to ABC

First on TVNewser: OPC member Christiane Amanpour is leaving CNN and will become the new anchor of ABC News’ “This Week” TVNewser has learned. ABC News staff was informed internally Thursday afternoon.

She will begin with “This Week” in August, and Jake Tapper will fill-in until then. The show will continue to be shot in Washington at the Newseum. There are no staff changes announced at this time.

In the last few weeks, Amanpour had been rumored to be in talks with ABC for the job, and FishbowlDC reported Monday that ABC News had made the long-time CNN host an offer.

Amanpour has, for years, been a standard for CNN, having started with the network working the foreign desk over 26 years ago. In September, she launched her own show “Amanpour,” which airs on CNNI during the week and CNN on Sundays. At the time, she told TVNewser that moving to the studio, away from the international field reporting she’d been known for, was a step out of her “comfort zone.”
