Bloody Trend for Honduran Journalists Continues

HONDURAS: Luis Antonio Chévez Hernández became the sixth Honduran journalist to be murdered in 2010 when he was shot to death this week in front of his house in the commercial capital of San Pedro Sula.

Chévez, a presenter for Radio W105, and his cousin were gunned down April 11th by unidentified
men as they exited their car.  Robbery was quickly ruled out as a motive when police recovered a large sum of money among the victims’ belongings.

According to Reporters Without Borders and other reports, witnesses said they had seen strangers lurking near the house prior to the arrival of Chévez and his cousin.

The killings follow a bloody month for Honduran journalists in March, when five reporters were murdered.  No one has been charged in any of the six killings, nor any motive yet suggested.
