Head of BBC to Step Down

From The New York Times: Mark Thompson, who has overseen the British Broadcasting Corporation’s television channels, radio stations and websites since 2004, will depart the public broadcaster later this year, he said Monday.

In anticipation of such an announcement, the corporation, which is financed in large part by a license fee paid by British households with televisions, has already started to talk about planning for a successor. Mr. Thompson, who is 54, said on Monday that he would depart some time after the Summer Olympic games in London in July and August.
