Minister Sentenced on Yevloyev Shooting

INGUSHETIA, Russia: Ibragim Yevloyev, an Interior Ministry officer, was sentenced on December 11 to two years in a penal colony in the 2008 shooting death of journalist Magomed Yevloyev, founder of Ingushetia’s main opposition Web site. He was shot in the head in a police car.
Police contended that the journalist was shot accidentally when he tried to wrestle a gun from one of the officers. Although the victim and the defendant share the same last name, they were not related.
