Police Shut Bangladesh Photo Show Hours After It Opens

DHAKA — Bangladeshi police today shut down an exhibition of photographs evoking extrajudicial killings committed by Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) only hours after it opened.

OPC member Brian Palmer, recently in Bangladesh teaching documentary technique and now in Singapore, reported early this morning that police were at the gates of the Drik Picture Library in Dhaka, which is hosting the CROSSFIRE show.

The photos by Shahidul Alam depict the likely execution places of individuals executed by the RAB, the covert Bangladeshi force formed to combat violent crime which has been accused by some human-rights groups of murdering more than 1,000 people since its creation six years ago.
