Thursday at OPC: Meet the Emmy Winners

Congratulations to Firestone and the Warlord for winning two
Emmys on Tuesday night!

On Thursday, Oct. 1, come meet the winners, see clips from
the documentary and hear behind-the-scenes insights from the filmmakers, OPC
Foundation’s 2009 I.F. Stone winner, Jonathan Jones, and Marcela Gaviria of
Rain Media. The film, which investigates the operations of American tire
company Firestone in Liberia during the civil war, won Emmys for Outstanding
Investigative Journalism – Long Form, and for Outstanding Research. Our
compliments to Jones, Gaviria, PBS Frontline and ProPublica for winning these prestigious
awards.

Gaviria’s husband, OPC Board of Governors member Martin
Smith
, served as a host during the ceremony and presented the Emmy to his wife on
stage.

The OPC would also like to congratulate Smith and Frontline
for winning two Emmys for United States
of Secrets
, an investigation of NSA mass surveillance. The film won Best
Documentary and Outstanding Coverage of a Current News Story – Long Form.
Frontline won a total of six Emmys this year.
