Events at World Press Freedom Day 2010 have been recorded and archived at the WPFD website from The University of Queensland. The theme was “the right to know.”

A New York-based event by Reporters Without Borders was held on May 3, titled “Reporter Safety: A Shared Responsibility.”

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, said freedom of information included the principle that organizations and governments had a duty to share or provide ready access to information they hold, to anyone who wants it, based on the public’s right to be informed.

This year’s UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize went to Mónica González Mujica, a Chilean champion of investigative journalism.
